Ear Infections

Ear pain, pressure, drainage, muffled hearing, or fever may be caused by an ear infection, fluid behind the eardrum, allergies, wax, or another condition. Your provider will ask about symptoms, recent illness, swimming, injury, and hearing changes. Because the eardrum and ear canal may need direct examination, an in-person visit may be recommended. Seek urgent care for swelling behind the ear, severe dizziness, facial weakness, or rapidly worsening pain.

What to expect during a telemedicine visit

Your provider will help determine whether virtual care is appropriate and will recommend testing, in-person evaluation, or emergency care when needed. This information is educational and does not replace a personal medical evaluation.
