Sore Throat

A sore throat may be caused by a viral infection, strep throat, allergies, reflux, dry air, or irritation. Your provider will review fever, cough, exposure history, swallowing difficulty, and other symptoms. A throat test may be needed before antibiotics are prescribed. Seek emergency care for trouble breathing, inability to swallow liquids, drooling, severe one-sided swelling, or a muffled voice.

What to expect during a telemedicine visit

Your provider will help determine whether virtual care is appropriate and will recommend testing, in-person evaluation, or emergency care when needed. This information is educational and does not replace a personal medical evaluation.
